Helsinki


Helsinki is the capital city of Finland and the center of the Uusimaa region. It is located on the northern shore of the Gulf of Finland in the southern part of the country. Helsinki's neighboring municipalities are Espoo to the west, Vantaa to the north, and Sipoo to the east. The city has 658,864 residents. The Helsinki urban area extends into several neighboring municipalities, such as Espoo and Vantaa. The broader Helsinki metropolitan region has 1,572,928 residents.


Hyvinkää


Hyvinkää is a city in the Uusimaa region. It is part of the Helsinki metropolitan area. With a population of approximately 47,000 (2016), it is the fifth largest city in the region after Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, and Porvoo. Hyvinkää is located along Finland's main railway line, highways 3 and 25, the Vantaa River, and the First Salpausselkä ridge.


Joensuu


Joensuu is a city in Finland and the regional center of North Karelia, located on the northern shore of Lake Pyhäselkä at the mouth of the Pielis River in the North Karelia region. Joensuu is the 12th largest city in Finland by population. The city area has approximately 78,000 inhabitants.


Jakobstad


Jakobstad (Finnish: Pietarsaari) is a city in Finland located in the Ostrobothnia region on the coast of the Bothnian Bay. The total area of the city is 396.35 km2, of which 88.45 km² is land. The city center is characterized by wide streets and esplanades separating different districts.


Jyväskylä


Jyväskylä is a city in Finland, the regional center of Central Finland, and a municipality located on the northern shore of Lake Päijänne in the Central Finland region. Jyväskylä has a population of 142,477 and an area of 1,466.35 km², of which 295.38 km² is water. The population density is 121.67 inhabitants/km².


Järvenpää


Järvenpää is a city of approximately 46,000 inhabitants in Southern Finland, in the Uusimaa region. Järvenpää belongs to Central Uusimaa, and its neighboring municipalities are Mäntsälä in the northeast, Sipoo in the east, and Tuusula in the south, west, and north. Järvenpää is part of the Helsinki metropolitan area and is one of the surrounding municipalities of the Helsinki region.


Kouvola


Kouvola is a city located in Kymenlaakso, known for being a railway and industrial center as well as for its beautiful nature. It is a former garrison town and an important transport hub, especially for railway traffic. Kouvola offers diverse cultural and recreational opportunities, such as the Tykkimäki amusement park, Repovesi National Park, and Kouvola Theater. The city's history is strongly connected to the paper and forest industry, but it has also developed as a center for education and commerce. Kouvola includes several former municipalities, such as Kuusankoski and Valkeala, which brings diversity to the area and creates a strong local identity.


Kuopio


Kuopio is a city in Finland and the regional center of North Savo, located on the shores of Lake Kallavesi in the North Savo region. The city has a population of about 119,000, and its area is 4,326.35 km², of which 1,085.34 km² is water. The central urban area of Kuopio is mostly located on the Kuopionniemi peninsula, which extends south into Lake Kallavesi, dividing the lake into two almost separate parts.


Lohja


Lohja is a city in Finland located in the Uusimaa region. The city is officially bilingual, with 3.5% of its residents speaking Swedish as their mother tongue. Lohja's neighboring municipalities are Inkoo, Karkkila, Raseborg, Salo, Siuntio, Somero, Tammela, and Vihti.


Paimio


Paimio is a city in Finland located in the Southwest Finland region, halfway between Turku and Salo along Highway 1. Paimio adopted city status in 1997. Paimio's neighboring municipalities are Lieto, Kaarina, Marttila, Salo, and Sauvo.


Porvoo


Porvoo is a city in Finland located on the southern coast in the Uusimaa region. The city has a population of 50,361. The city is bilingual; 64.1 percent of residents are Finnish-speaking, 29.6 percent Swedish-speaking, and 6.3 percent speak other languages. Porvoo's neighboring municipalities are Askola, Loviisa, Myrskylä, Pornainen, and Sipoo. Porvoo was the regional center of Eastern Uusimaa.


Tampere


Tampere is a city in Finland and the regional center of Pirkanmaa, located between Lakes Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi. Tampere is Finland's third-largest municipality by population and, with its surrounding municipalities, forms Finland's second-largest urban area. Tampere is also the largest inland city in the Nordic countries by population.


Turku


Turku is a city in Finland and the center of the Southwest Finland region, located at the mouth of the Aura River on the coast of the Archipelago Sea. As of August 2019, the city has a population of 192,674, and the Turku sub-region has 330,482 inhabitants. This makes Turku Finland's sixth-largest municipality and third-largest urban area by population.


Tuusula


Tuusula is a municipality in Finland located in the Uusimaa region. Tuusula's neighboring municipalities are Hyvinkää to the north, Mäntsälä to the northeast, Järvenpää, Sipoo, and Kerava to the east, Vantaa to the south, and Nurmijärvi to the west. Tuusula is one of the surrounding municipalities of the Helsinki region. Tuusula has a population of about 39,000. About half of Tuusula's population lives in Hyrylä, which is the municipal center.


Valkeakoski


Valkeakoski is a city of about 21,000 inhabitants located 35 kilometers south of Tampere. It belongs to the Pirkanmaa region and the Southern Pirkanmaa sub-region. Valkeakoski is particularly known for its paper industry and as a versatile cultural and sports city.


Vantaa


Vantaa is a city in the Uusimaa region. It is Finland's fourth-largest city by population. As of January 31, 2020, Vantaa had a population of 233,383 inhabitants. Vantaa got its name from the river flowing through the city, which was named by ancient Tavastians.


Ylöjärvi


Ylöjärvi is a city located west of Tampere in Pirkanmaa. Ylöjärvi's neighboring municipalities are Hämeenkyrö, Ikaalinen, Kihniö, Nokia, Parkano, Ruovesi, Tampere, and Virrat. At the beginning of 1954, the western part of Teisko municipality, located west of Lake Näsijärvi, was divided between Ylöjärvi and Kuru. On January 1, 2007, the merger of the City of Ylöjärvi and the municipality of Viljakkala took effect. The municipality of Kuru was incorporated into Ylöjärvi on January 1, 2009.
