Sova3D – Openness in Construction and Urban Planning
Sova3D Oy develops web-based software for various stages of land use and construction. Our goal is to create comprehensive solutions for managing the lifecycle of buildings and cities – in collaboration with our partners.
A single company cannot be solely responsible for the development of an entire city, but open interfaces and open data models play a crucial role in enabling the utilization of data from various sources.
In land use planning, the building information model (BIM) is based on the open IFC format, while at the city level, the CityGML model (CIM) is used. It is particularly important for the public sector to utilize open formats (which is different from open data!) – this helps avoid vendor lock-in and ensures the long-term usability of data.
In infrastructure construction, the LandXML format has traditionally been used, but in construction projects, there is an increasing shift towards the new IFC 4.3 format, which also covers the data model descriptions required for infrastructure construction. Sova3D supports both features.
Kunta3D – Visibility for Municipal Projects
Kunta3D is Sova3D’s flagship product: a publishing and collaboration platform that brings together 2D and 3D materials in one place. Its purpose is to promote transparency and participation in municipal administration.
In the various stages of zoning, building supervision, and construction, Kunta3D makes projects visible – precisely when they are legally required to be presented. Traditionally, zoning projects might have been published quietly during the holiday season, but with Kunta3D, residents can review plans anytime and anywhere – even from their summer cottage dock.
Technology from Finland – Reliable and Responsible
Kunta3D is powered by technology developed in-house by Sova3D, with development starting as early as 2015. Our core expertise is based in Finland, and our servers are located within the EU/ETA region. In our development work, we strictly adhere to EU data protection and regulatory requirements.
We also leverage the same technology for the needs of third parties and various industries. Examples of collaborative projects can be found on the Partners page.
